This one-of-a-kind necklace centers on a strand of natural lapis from Afghanistan, selected for its rich blue color and irregular, tactile surfaces. The variation from bead to bead gives the strand a character that feels distinctly different from a perfectly uniform gemstone necklace.
Lapis lazuli has been valued for centuries for its intense blue color and naturally occurring mineral variation. In this strand, the individual beads retain a rough-hewn quality that emphasizes the material itself rather than disguising its natural character.
The necklace is hand-knotted on silk and finished with a handmade 18K yellow gold clasp whose sculptural surface echoes the texture of the lapis beads. Rather than functioning as a purely technical closure, the clasp becomes part of the overall design.
The gold clasp and necklace construction are completed in our San Luis Obispo studio, bringing traditional handwork together with an exceptional natural gemstone material.
